Increasing Equity for Online Learners: Course and Campus Level Strategies
First, the good news: Overall retention and success rates for online learners have almost reached parity with those for on-ground learners. However, there’s still work to do: Large, equity-based achievement gaps still exist for a number of student sub-populations, such as Black/African-American and Latinx students, first generation students, and foster youth.
Since equity issues extend beyond the online course environment, Dr. Kevin Kelly will share practical examples, tools and strategies for you to address equity issues at the course and campus levels; as well as lessons learned through his work in support of Peralta Community College District’s Equity Initiative. There will be something for everyone–online faculty and instructional designers; faculty development and academic technology staff; tech support and student services staff; and campus leaders.
